A version of A Ritual of Habits was
exhibited as an installation at Tainan International Foto Festival in my home country Taiwan.
Taiwan has been a major source of sugar production since Dutch colonists arrived in the 17th century and established plantations, but it was not until the defeat of Imperial Japan in World War II that the Taiwanese working class gained widespread access to the sugar they had produced for centuries. Even now, the meaning behind this delicacy has not been fully decolonized.
